Social & Community Participation

Participate in our diverse range of Social and Community Participation programs. Engage with peers and the local community, have fun and develop some new friendships.

Groupies

Indulge in your music passion. Follow local bands and check out the latest live gigs? Groupies are devoted to attending as many live performances as possible ranging from bands playing at local venues to buskers on the streets and in parks. It is all about kicking back and enjoying the music, soaking up the atmosphere and having a great time.

Sunday Sessions

Kick back on a Sunday afternoon with newfound friends, listen to the latest live bands, dance the afternoon away or just chill out, the choice is yours. Many great memories have been created from a good old fashioned Sunday Session and these guys certainly know how to have a great time.

Out & About

Get out and about in your local community, attend a range of local events and activities as chosen by the group. Participants are encouraged to express their ideas for places of interest to visit and events to attend as a group. Be part of your local community and broaden your social skills along the way.

Hip Ideas

H.I.P Ideas is a program that is designed around your needs and the needs of your peers. In H.I.P Idea’s you are the centre of the program. You are encouraged to learn by doing and to leverage the support of your peers. Onsite staff will support you but are there in a supervisory role.

H.I.P Ideas is a program that is designed around your needs and the needs of your peers. In H.I.P Idea’s you are the centre of the program. You are encouraged to learn by doing and to leverage the support of your peers. Onsite staff will support you but are there in a supervisory role. You and your peers will lead the program. H.I.P Ideas is designed to increase your independence. To develop communication skills and for you to learn how to interact with your peers.You will also learn how to:

  • share in new experiences
  • negotiate
  • compromise
  • form friendships
  • plan
  • persuade

All within a safe and supportive environment.

Creative Craft

Develop your individual artistic potential in a supportive and encouraging environment.  Use any number of craft materials, paints, pencils etc to create stunning art pieces and gifts. Exhibit and sell your creations and visit local exhibitions and events for inspiration.

All Sports

Increase your fitness, coordination, self confidence and improve your overall well-being. Participate in a variety of sporting activities such as boxing, swimming, ball sports, bush walks, fishing, bowling and gym.

Faces And Places

Increase your social circle, meet new people and explore your local community. Whether it be visiting local attractions, dining out, catching a live show or an educational day tour, you can be assured that there is no shortage of interesting and exciting opportunities with the Faces & Places group.

What’s On

Socialisation is very important in maintaining quality of life and regular socialisation helps to combat feelings of loneliness and isolation. The What’s On Group get together every Friday afternoon to participate in local events and festivals. Broaden your horizons, have lots of fun and make new friendships along the way.

Professional photographer and videographer, Julie Lowe will teach you how to strive for passion, soul and inspiration in your photography and also the basics of getting to know your camera in manual mode. Learn how to develop a great eye for capturing those special moments to share with your family and friends.

Celebrating teamwork, friendship and inclusion, the Band’s motto is it’s not about YOU and ME, it’s about US. Always a crowd favourite, Us the Band perform at various local gigs, festivals and events. Applications are open for new members who have a unique musical talent they can contribute to the band. Waitlist applies.

Freedom on the water regardless of ability is what sailability is all about. Feel the wind on your face as you gently guide your sailboat along the water. Experience the thrill of mastering the art of sailing on your own as you learn the skills from experienced Sailability volunteers. Fun for all on the water in a safe, supported environment.

Textiles

Explore your creative side in a workshop that is exciting and fun. Learn how to make items out of recycled timber for display and sale at our Murwillumbah Art Hub. The Textiles group also participate in activities such as bike repairing, painting, staining an tie dying.  Learn new skills based on your goals
